Lake Nakuru National Park

Compact rhino sanctuary where flamingo flocks (when present) turn the lake pink.

Lake Nakuru is small but rewarding—a park where you can see both black and white rhinos in a single game drive, along with Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, leopards, and abundant birdlife.

The lake itself is famous for seasonal flamingo gatherings—though numbers fluctuate with water levels and algae blooms, so sightings aren’t guaranteed. When conditions align, tens of thousands of flamingos create a pink ribbon along the shore, one of Africa’s most photogenic sights.

The park’s compact size (less than 200 square kilometers) means you can cover significant ground in half a day, making it ideal for travelers en route between Nairobi and the Mara, or those short on time but wanting quality wildlife encounters.

Nakuru is efficient, family-friendly, and visually varied—woodland, grassland, rocky escarpments, and lakeshore all within easy reach.
